Tomorrow’s IP networks are based on IPv6. The migration to this protocol, however, is not trivial and requires substantial efforts. All network components and their interactions must be considered.
Companies and institutions need to have a strong command of address migration regarding the enormous complexity and high risks. But the time is now: due to increased Internet use, i.e. a strong increase in connected devices, address space based on IPv4 has exhausted since the beginning of 2011.
NIAMS© IPv6 Migrator supports efficient and smooth migration to IPv6. The solution first and foremost provides relevant network data to assist in the creation of a reliable migration concept. Further highly important functions include: the analysis and documentation of all IP inter-communication paths, a comprehensive collection of device settings and the option of graphical network visualization. NIAMS© IPv6 Migrator generates NIAMS© Device Manager Jobs to implement the IPv6 configuration. Continuous synchronization between IPv4 and IPv6 facilitates checks during the migration process. Moreover, the data is processed for use in the Dynamips simulation environment.
Innovation & support
The implementation of the latest “NIAMS© IPv6 Migrator” solution module was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology within the “ZIM” program (Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand – Central Innovation Program SME) from 2010 to 2011.
